Why is Prince so obsessed in bringing in Digimon and Pokemon into the talk?LOL.
The underlying spirit of anime is to make a profitable business. Which is why my now Favourite PM is PM Lee HL. He saw the Cents and Dollars in the Anime business.
Let's look at Digimon and Pokemon. The real reason why we shouldn't discuss D&P along with B&N (Bleach and Naruto) is because of origin.
D&P is a result of a different commercial product. Both are digital entertainment originally. Pokemon is game on the GB while Digimon's root is older as a cousin of the Tamagotchi. They moved on to other merchandise media from serialised comics to toys, collectables and of course, an animated series. In terms of storyline in the anime, studios are quite about freely to choose their own writings to base on since there's no solid story grid to based on.
B&N however are results of anime studio picking up hot serialised manga stories and cashing on their status on a built up readership. Normally it's about a print to screen variation of the manga. There are cases of when the anime differs quite a bit from the manga (FMA) or simply adding more (fillers).
Of course don't be closed minded on anime. Not every piece is like B&N or D&P. There's always more choices, especially if you just want to uber cool adult, there's always works from GONZO. Where coolness and badAssNess is above the logic of good script or consistant animation (for most animated they produced).

Haha. Kids show then cant watch meh? I still watch Tom and Jerry! Just that the feel is different from when you are young and when you grow up. Hey, Tom & Jerry is really good stuff, because its slapstick humour. It can get incredibly violent and I'm sure some kids are a bit shocked by it, but not to the extent that they start crying. Its good stuff coz the cat, who in real life always kills the mouse, gets smacked around by a few mice in a few hundred different ways. So the humour comes from the paradox, esp since both the cat and the mouse are made sentient but turns out that the mice are more intelligent ^^ On the other hand the other incarnation Tom & Jerry Kids really really sucks. And yes I agree with d4 up there. There is alot of anime for adults but they simply don't catch on in Singapore because people generally think cartoons are for kids. I for one really dislike the above 4 anime mentioned by d4. There are 4 main anime genres and the ones that are for younger audiences are Shounen and Shoujo, which tend to be more popular in Singapore. The ones that are for older audiences are Seinen and Josei. You can read more about the genres on wikipedia or at my blogpost here: ckwiz.blogspot.com/2007/02/anime-genres.htmlBut its best to try them for yourselves to get the best idea. Ok I also read the article in the Straits Times, but have u considered that the whole thing is gonna be led by Odex? That would be REALLY bad. Looks like Lee HL has realised that anime is a good thing and wants to promote it, but it may become a huge Odex marketing campaign. And that would REALLY SUCK.
